Sports rules top broadcasts in 2024 in US & German

🏈 🇺🇸 Austin Karp of Sports Business Journal reported that sports dominated TV ratings in the US in 2024, claiming 87 of the top 100 programs. The NFL led with 70 spots, including the 2 Netflix Xmas games and one Thursday Night Football livestream on Prime Video. However, this marks a decrease from 2023's 96 out of 100 sports programs, reflecting shifting viewer preferences in a Presidential election year.

🏅 The Paris Olympics made a strong showing with 12 spots in the top 100, outperforming Tokyo 2021. College sports had a breakthrough moment as the Caitlin Clark-led Women's NCAA Basketball Championship entered the top 100 for the first time, joining 3 College Football Playoff games.

🗳️ Politics cut into sports' dominance, with presidential debates and national conventions making the list. MLB returned to the top 100 for the first time since 2019 with Game 5 of Dodgers-Yankees World Series (No. 86 on the list), while the CBS series "Tracker" became the sole scripted show to break through, benefiting from its post-Super Bowl slot. The Oscars secured the 71st spot, outperforming other awards shows.

⚽️🇩🇪 Similar numbers in Germany where DWDL prepared a fantastic overview about the most watched shows (linear tv) in 2024. Main learning: For ARD, ZDF, RTL, Sat1 live-sports ranked on top thanks to Germany games at UEFA EURO & Nations League, Bundesliga coverage & even the Raab-Halmich fight.

Would be interesting to know how many sports shows in total ended up in Germany's top 100 in 2024... and if any livestreams made it on the DE list (DAZN / Magenta Sport / Netflix / Prime Video…)
